The heat has hit - my cooling choices

We've been having a real heat wave the last few days (ok, today is an exception but it won't last).
So, I wanted to share the perfume that work for me when it's so hot outside I need a perfume to cool me off.

My latest cooling discovery is Jardin du Poete by Eau d'Italie and I decided not to fight it anymore. :) It should arrive at Flores by the end of the month so I'll be giving one bottle a loving home.  and if the heat persists quite a lot of sprays.

There's already been much talk of Guerlain's  Vetiver (the masculine one). My boyfriend hates it, but I love it.
Here is a review from Perfume Shrine where both masculine and feminine versions are discussed.

One of the things I keep forgetting I have and forgetting I like amid everything else is Eau de Cartier. It's a little sparkling gem that refreshes like the gin and tonic many compare it to.

Aqua Allegoria Pamplelune - Well, I have only a little bit left of this wonderful grapefruit scent and I really need a bottle of it but it doesn't seem to be available here (or maybe I'm not looking right).
This seems to be a hit and miss as grapefruit is such a note.

Charmes et Feuilles by The Different Company has become a staple for me from spring all through summer. What better to cool you off but some mint?

And the last one, Mona di Orio Lux, the one that feels best in the languid heat of the evening as it doesn't put a freshness into your step but instead make you enjoy yourself languidly in the evening.

Please, if you have some ideas of your own, I can always use more diversity and coolness in my perfume collection. :)

Pic is mine and that would work great in the way of cooling as well. :)

  1. JoanElaine here. Blogger won't let me comment again...

LOL I immediatly thought of Guerlain Vetiver, but I see that isn't the best choice! I wear the men's to bed on hot summer nights.

Have you tried Esteé Lauder Private Collection Jasmine White Moss? To me, it's a mossy floral cocktail with a vibrant green citrus top. I wish I had a bottle! Even a small decant would suffice to get me through summer - I drained my sample rather quickly.

I also like Aqua Allegoria Tiare Mimosa in summer too!

  2. Mals just reviewed Pamplelune - it's so cool when bloggers are on the same wavelength! And speaking of cool, these scents seem perfect for warm day!

For me, cologne waters are perfectly cooling, esp Sanborn's Orange Blossom.

  3. I have no suggestions, but I just had to comment because I was thinking yesterday about how much I miss summer. I live in such a temperate place (it is currently 55F/12C and cloudy) that I can often wear "winter" scents in July with no problems. I know I am just being a "grass is always greener" person when I miss the sun, but I still miss it! :)

  4. Summer fragrances are my favorites, and AA Herba Fresca is probably my favorite of them. Hope you can find the Aqua Allegorias - Sephora carries them in the US in stores and online. AA Mandarine Basilic, L'Artisan The Pour un Ete, Jo Malone White Jasmine & Mint and Nectarine Blossom & Honey, Hermes Jardin sur le Nil, L'Eau de L'Artisan, and PdN L'Eau Mixte are other summer favorites.

  5. No summer for me this year so far but, unlike anotherperfumeblog, I have no complaints. But when (if) it actually starts I'll be wearing different gardens br Hermes and 5-6 colognes by Jo Malone.

  6. Hi JoanElaine, thanks for the suggestions! I haven't tried Jasmine White Moss but just by name it sounds promising. :)

  7. Bloody Firda, I haven't seen yet Mals' review but I agree, the synchronicity among bloggers is great (and seem to be on the rise).
    I'll go check her review.

  8. Anotherperfume blog, I really don't take well to heat (we've had temperatures in the mid 30s Celsius all last week) but I wouldn't want to live without these summers. On the general, summer seems like the most fleeting of seasons, you wait for it and then while you're thinking, oh, it's too hot to live, suddenly it's over and you have a whole year to wait until it's here again.

  9. Odonata9, I've already heard great things about Herba Fresca but am a bit slow on getting to it. :)
Thanks for the suggestions, I see both you and Undina mentioned Jo Malones. They aren't available here and I'm not one of those people who look down upon them because they are fleeting.
I'll have to get some more of them to try. :)

  10. Undina, you know, I'm not a huge Hermes fan but I've been eyeing my decants lately as their airy quality seems great in this heat. :) I'll give them a go.

  11. Great summer scents! I have a mini of Pamplelune that gets a lot of skin time too these days. I also love AA Herba Fresca, it is so unusual and very cooling. So are the Atelier Colognes, did you try these already? If not let me know!

  12. Thanks Olfactoria! :)
I tried Orange Sanguine and Trefle Pur but in the meantime I also misplaced the Orange Sanguine so I can't re-try it and wear it. (btw, I think you sent that one)
I think Trefle Pur would work better when sprayed, I have it in a roll bottle now. I think I'll decant it into a spray bottle.

  13. Mr Bonkers is just back from playing a gig in Umag, and said it was 38C and "mad hot"!

Your scent choices sound refreshing and just the job to combat the heat wave you're having. Another good one might be IUNX Eau Frappee, which is like the perfume equivalent of lemon sorbet, so would also recommend that for this weather. At this time of year I also like CSP Ecume de The, Byredo Gypsy Water and Yuzu Rouge, Kenzo Eau de Fleur de Magnolia and TDC Bergamote, Jasper Conran Woman and others I have forgotten for the moment!

  14. Vanessa, last week whole Croatia was under a terrible heat wave. It was too hot to be outside.
Thank you for the suggestions, I don't know why I keep skipping over TDC Bergamot, I'll give it a try today. :) The rest, I have no idea what they smell like so I see new discoveries are in store for me... ;)

  15. Hi Ines, lucky you to have such wonderful weather. It poured with rain over the weekend in the UK and looks like a gloomy week ahead. I second Olfactoria's suggestion of the Ateliers. I really love Trefle Pur and Oolong and think I will also love Vanilla Insensee when I get a chance to try it. Eau to Campagne by Sisley is another one I recommend. Fresh and leafy. Will have to check out Eau de Cartier as I'm hearing a lot about it lately. Congrats on your forthcoming Eua d'Italie purchase!

  16. HI Tara,
well, this week we might be getting a more showery weather but as soon as rain stops, the temperatures get back into 30s Celsius.

So, more Atelier suggestions, I definitely need to smell more of them then. :)

Btw, the Sisley is a good suggestion, a friend of mine wears it and I finally managed to remember that's the perfume I always ask her on (I seriously have a problem with names). :)

  17. Parfumerie Generale L'Eau Rare Matale
Jo Malone White Jasmine & Mint (already mentioned, I think.)
I used to adore ElizabethW Sweet Tea in summer. I don't know what happened, but you might love it.
    Chanel Cristalle
    Issey Miyake A Scent

The first is the best when it's really really hot - it's like ice cold water in those moments when ice cold water tastes better than anything else on earth, even though half an hour ago, when you were cool and comfortable, water was too boring to consider. All the others are like ice cold lemonade - wonderful in moderate heat, but when it's really blazing, even a touch of sugar or sour makes you recoil.

  18. Hi ChickenFreak, thanks for the suggestions! :)
It's funny how one thinks of having a relatively good idea of refreshing perfumes out there only to end up seeing how many were never tried. :)
