Stuck in perfume limbo

I'm blaming it on the weather (and possibly fatigue and stress, but mainly weather).

The spring started here even before the calendar said so, and then went back-tracking into something resembling more autumn and now  we're finally getting the sun and warmth, and now we're hitting almost summer temperatures which is coming as quite a shock to many people (the instant rise from cold into summer).

I had started contemplating spring perfumes sometime in March when the spring first showed its face and then I got stuck, as the temperatures fell and I needed to wear my coat again in order to feel warm enough.

So now it's very warm, I've skipped my spring perfumes and I'm at a loss what to apply each day (like I've been for the last month and a half).
I've sort of lost my perfume (wearing) thread.

Not to mention the fact that most of my summer perfumes are hidden somewhere in the depths of my closet ...

If not sooner, I'm hoping the next trip to Paris will deal with my perfume limbo. After all, Paris helps with any problems you might have. ;)

  1. Ines, we all go through periods like this, so don't sweat it. Considering all that's been on your personal agenda, I think it's laudable that you kept up with your reading challenges and did some posts on the books you read.

You once wrote a post about riding your motorcycle at night with your boyfriend and the various scents you drove through. I don't know whether you still do that -- nor what types of flowering shrubs you have in Zagreb -- but right now the honeysuckle is in bloom in Pennsylvania and it seems to release its scent in the evening. It made me think of you and your guy ... and how nice it would be to take a motorcyle ride along a honeysuckle'd road right now. Perhaps doing something like that would put you back in a scented mood? I don't know, just a suggestion. :)

At any rate, Paris is now just a month away ... yay!

    1. Suzanne, you know, I was considering that same post when writing this one, remembering the joy of scents. The problem is, it was so cold, there were no motorcycle rides in the past month (and we already started in March when the weather was warm).
I'm hoping now that we seemed to have gone straight into summer, the rides will be regular and the city smells will re-awaken my scenting joy.
If that doesn't work, I'm sure Paris will do the trick. :)

P.S. I bought my airplane ticket last week, so I'm all set. :D

  2. I totally get you Ines - here the weather has wobbled to and fro for months now - for instance today it is nearly freezing (perhaps I need to wear some incense?) and next week it will be over 70 degree F!

    1. Carol, it really makes me feel old, the amount of time I spent thinking and discussing weather these days. :) But I can't help it if it's really strange and influences my perfume wearing habits.
I hope it won't be a difficult turn for you next week - it gets hard on people when the temperatures change so suddenly (my boyfriend gets terrible headaches).

  3. No need to worry, it'll come back:-) Until then just grab something from your cupboard, and you might be surprised at what you discover, that's how I do it anyway, when I just can't be bothered to actually choose. And as you just said; Paris will help any problems...

    1. Asali, that's what I'm pretty much doing. I'm not considering my choices at all, it seems. And I keep waiting to again be seduced by a perfume and feel the joy of discovering something incredibly good.
If not sooner, I'm sure Paris will provide me with that. ;)

  4. Hope your perfume limbo passes soon, Ines. I can totally relate as I choose my Sotd according to the weather and time of year too. Something similar has happened here in the UK. The weather was starting to get warmer in March and a hose pipe ban was imposed to deal with the drought, then it got cold again and we've just had the wettest April since records began!

    1. Tara, it makes me feel better to learn other people have similar weather/perfume issues.
We didn't have a wet April, it looked like it would rain but it was just clouded and cold all the time. And now it's summer - 30 degrees Celsius today and yesterday in Zagreb.

  5. As Tara says, our weather has been all over the place lately. My Facebook status earlier today reports a sighting of a woman in a full length fur coat, just paces ahead of one in a sleeveless vest top. Everyone is caught out here on a daily basis!

    1. :D
Vanessa, after yesterday, I'm wearing summer clothes - I had to go do something in town and walked around for an hour and came home completely wet (thanks to the sun and my body's response).
And I started wearing my tuberoses which I'm taking as a good sign. :)

  6. I'm having a similar limbo situation but with my clothes. I'm not sure if it's time already to hide my wool cardigans and move onto something lighter... and just a couple of days ago suddenly it was summer (~30C) and today it's cold again... And I need to pack for a short trip and I can't figure out what to take... Brrr. Hate that. And I know that mostly it's stress-related.

I hope you'll get some rest, then go to Paris - and then everything will be better.

    1. Undina I hate it as well when the weather is so unstable that you need to take with you everything from a winter coat to a summer dress.
As far as I can tell, we might not be hitting 30 degrees Celsius for some time now but the temperatures will be in 20s for quite some time longer.
