Honestly, after the disaster that was the HP 6 movie, I didn't expect the first part of the Deathly Hallows to be so much better. I don't know if it was directed by the same person (I never remember these things) but if it was, I think whoever it was listened to what people had to say after movie 6. As someone who is a huge fan, I watched all the movies again previously to Deathly Hallows coming out, except for movie 6 because I'm still boycotting it. It was just a huge disappointment for me.
So, I am extremely glad that this one was everything I expected after reading the series several times. It's dark, it sticks to the story so well that I, for a chnage, didn't have any complaints as to the changes that were made for the movie, which I think is a first for me, the story feels real and the acting is excellent. There really isn't anything that I have any complaints about - except the fact that I need to wait 8 months for the last installment. But I waited so long for the last book, I can survive these 8 months. I'm a bit scared of thinking how tragic that one is going to be, but well, the book wasn't very happy (or almost at all).
One thing I'm wondering though is how are people who haven't read the books enjoying these movies?! I just can't imagine not reading the books but going to watch the movies (and I know many who did exactly that). I keep thinking they must be missing so many things I take for granted as I read the books and they have no underlying knowledge why some things happen or what they represent. Not to mention the fact that they probably forgot the stories (and little important bits of information) from the previous movies.
Can you tell I'm a huge fan? :)
I am too Ines! A GIANT HP fangirl!
ReplyDelete(Waves!!!)
I can't wait to take my girls to see it...waiting till the frenzy calms down.
In Seattle we have the HP exhibition at the Pacific Science Center which supposedly has all kinds of cool stuff from the movies..gotta get to that too!
I'm with you on not knowing how people can not have read these wonderful, beautiful books.
I love Harry so much, I have cried for him many times..

Waving at my fellow fanatic!! :)
ReplyDeleteBeing an adult, people often laugh at my love for HP even though they accept it. But what I cannot for the life of me understand is, how can you start on the series and never finish it (I also know a lot of people who did that)?
Tamara, I admit I cry each time I read the last few chapters of HP 7 and I'm scared of thinking what will happen when I see that movie. :)
HP being a children series (well, only in the beginning), for me it's an incredible story of friendship and such bravery.
Oh Ines, you are a kindred spirit to my heart.
ReplyDeleteI feel for Harry as I would one of my dearest friends. The summer I read the HP 7 I bawled while reading out on my lawn for I couldn't help myself, I don't even try to explain my devotion to people that don't get it. He's my baby! I want him to find happiness!
His trials and hardships have been my own, his loneliness is mine as well. Now you've got me all ready for the movie- too bad I can't today, it was a snow day here and all the girls stayed home from school but I'm scared to brave the roads...even for my dearest Harry.
Cheers Ines! If we could I would love to sit and talk about these amazing magical stories that captured our souls and made us believe , even as adults..in magic.
So happy to hear a good review of this. My husband and I were disappointed in the last film. I was actually shocked, because every film leading up to that was quite good.
ReplyDeleteMy husband has read all the books and I haven't read any, but we both enjoy the films. He fills me in on the differences between the book and film afterwards, but that doesn't affect my enjoyment of the films.
Tamara, you had me grinning all through your comment. :) I understand how it's no use explaining to people, that series is simply part of me for life (and hopefully my future children, I'll give my best).
ReplyDeleteThere aren't that many books that can get into my mind and soul and make me want to stay in the world they weaved for me, but HP falls into that category. You know, I always feel depressed after finishing the last book because there is no more. The same happens to me with LOTR.
Oh, I do wish we could discuss the magical world of JK Rowling. :D That would be a first for me btw (I'm always the one explaining everything about HP to everyone else).
Please let me know what you think of the movie, I saw several reviews that it could have been shorter, but I love it just the way it is.
JoanElaine, you better not get me started on the last film. I still get upset just thinking about it. And you didn't even read the book and you thought it wasn't good.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad the fact you haven't read the books doesn't take away from your enjoyment of the movies, but didn't you wish you read them after your husband did? :)
I hear a lot how adults thought the first book was for children so obviously they never went further and many get surprised when I say how the story progresses and matures as the characters do (well, if you saw the movies, you obviously know that but some people haven't).
And I see I'm again on the subject and there's no way of stopping. :D
So, let me know what you think of this movie once you see it, please?
Darling Ines, I saw it last night with the girlies! I LOVED IT<3<3<3
ReplyDeleteI was enraptured by Harry as always and saddened for my baby's hard times.. The movie carried the tone of the movie brilliantly right down to the colors- all grey and dark....
I want to see it again.
I can't wait till the last one...*sigh* SNIFF.
Long live Harry Potter!
Tamara - yeeey! I'm glad you enjoyed it and loved it as much as I did. :) Although this one isn't one to evoke happy feelings, I'm still happy over how well it was done.
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking of watching it again as well. This time without all the teenage chatter around. ;)
Long live HP!
